Colombia: SIC pulls curtain on new industry cartel

 |  May 23, 2017

The Superintendent of Industry and Commerce, Pablo Felipe Robledo, revealed last week that the agency under his command has discovered a new cartel, adding to a growing list that includes diapers, private security, toilet paper, meat and notebooks, among others discovered in recent years. This time, the suspected uncompetitive behaviour has been identified in the concrete tube industry.

The companies involved include American Pipe, Manufacturas de Cemento (Titan) and Tubox. Likewise, SIC issued charges against seven senior executives and former executives of the above-mentioned companies for having collaborated, facilitated, authorized and implemented price-fixing measures.

According to the regulator, between 2004 and 2014, during which time these anticompetitive behaviors would have been committed, the three companies sold about 250 billion pesos ($87 million US).
