Colombia/Mexico: Alsea group bids for Colombia’s largest pizza chain

 |  February 23, 2016

Mexico’s Grupo Alsea, a major operator of multinational brands including Domino’s Pizza, Starbucks and Italiannis, has announced plans to purchase Colombia’s largest Italian-food chain, Archies. The firm has offered an estimated $15.2 million dollars.

“We estimate that Colombia’s contribution to Alsea’s overall income will rise from 2 to 3%, said Antonio González and Ignacio Ochoa, with Credit Suisse, in a report made to Alsea’s shareholders. Alsea’s 2015 income amounted to over $1.7 billion dollars when considering their Mexico, Spain and South American properties.

The transaction would transfer ownership of all 41 restaurants currently operated by Archies, as well as the hiring of a new commission dedicated to product standardisation, wholesale purchases and production of pasta, desserts and ice creams, as well as all IP rights and registered trademarks. Alsea already has a presence in Colombia, managing the Domino’s Pizza, Burger King, Starbucks and PF Chang’s China Bistro brands over 93 locations all together.
