Czech Republic: Telco watchdog approvals all applications for 4G spectrum auction
The Czech Republic’s telecommunications watchdog announced Monday it had approved all applications received for operators to take place in the bidding of 4G spectrum, according to reports.
The Czech Telecommunication Office cleared the way for all five bidders to take part in the event on November 11; two of the bidders are would-be new entrants, Revolution Mobile AS and state-owned Sazja Telecommunications.
The other three include Telefonica O2, T-Mobile Czech Republic and Vodafone Czech Republic.
The auction will be the second attempt by the government to distribute the spectrum. The first attempt to do was abandoned last March following spikes in reserve prices, which caused fears of inflated service costs.
This time, the auction has stirred some controversy as the CTU announced the requirement that some spectrum be reserved for a new market entrant.
