DOJ Antitrust Division Director of Litigation Mark Ryan rejoins Mayer Brown- UPDATE

Mark W. Ryan has rejoined Mayer Brown as a partner in Washington DC, where he will lead the firm’s global Antitrust & Competition practice. Ryan was the first-ever Director of Litigation at the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division before returning to Mayer Brown.

“We are delighted that Mark chose Mayer Brown for his return to private practice and look forward to working with him in representing our multi-national clients on a wide range of competition and litigation matters,” said Mike Lackey, leader of Mayer Brown’s global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice.

In 2012 Ryan joined the DOJ’s Antitrust Division as its Director of Litigation looking to bolster the Antitrust Division’s trial readiness and effectiveness. At the Antitrust Division, Ryan served as lead trial counsel in several notable cases, including the DOJ’s victory over Apple in its e-book pricing suit and the agency’s successful challenges and settlements in the InBev/Grupo Modelo and US Airways/American Airlines mergers. In addition, Mr. Ryan was part of the Antitrust Division team that successfully sued American Express over anti-steering rules contained in its credit card agreements with merchants.
