DOJ Antitrust Litigator Dahlquist Returns to Winston Taylor

David Dahlquist, a former senior Justice Department antitrust litigator who worked on major cases involving Google and Live Nation-Ticketmaster, has returned to Winston Taylor as a partner and co-chair of its Antitrust & Competition Practice.

    Dahlquist will be based in Chicago and Washington and will lead the practice alongside James Herbison, according to a statement from the firm.

    He spent four years at the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division, most recently serving as deputy director of litigation. During his government tenure, Dahlquist helped oversee the division’s trial docket and served as lead trial counsel in major antitrust enforcement actions, including litigation involving Google and Live Nation-Ticketmaster, the firm said.

    His move back to private practice comes amid sustained antitrust enforcement against large technology companies and increased scrutiny of mergers and alleged monopolistic conduct. Lawyers with recent government trial experience have become important hires for firms representing companies facing investigations and litigation by competition authorities.

    Dahlquist joined the Justice Department as senior trial counsel in 2022 after spending more than two decades at Winston & Strawn, one of the predecessor firms to Winston Taylor. His earlier private-practice work included antitrust litigation, health-care matters and class actions, according to the firm. He also previously co-chaired Winston & Strawn’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Group.

    “Returning to the firm where I started my career 25 years ago feels like a homecoming,” Dahlquist said in the statement, adding that he was grateful for his time at the Justice Department.

    Dahlquist succeeds Eva Cole as co-chair of the antitrust practice. Cole has been named managing partner of Winston Taylor’s New York office, according to the announcement.

    Winston Taylor Chairman Steve D’Amore said Dahlquist’s experience handling major US monopolization cases would add to the firm’s roster of first-chair trial lawyers.

    The firm’s antitrust lawyers represent clients in litigation and regulatory proceedings involving the Justice Department, Federal Trade Commission and U.S. courts, as well as competition authorities in Europe and the UK.
