DOJ uncovers mesquite charcoal cartel in California

William W. Lord has pleaded guilty to customer allocation and bid-rigging for the sale of mesquite charcoal. Lord owns Chef’s Choice Mesquite Charcoal, a California-based mesquite charcoal distributor. According to the DOJ, from 2000 to 2010, Lord agreed with distributors in Los Angeles and San Francisco not to compete and to coordinate and submit noncompetitive bids.
