Ecuador: Authorities take on America Movil

Ecuadorian regulators lodged a fine against America Movil subsidiary Claro for anticompetitive behavior, say reports.

    Claro, the nation’s industry leader, was sanctioned with a $138.4 million fine by the Superintendent of Market Control, but reports did not specify exactly what behavior authorities found to be anticompetitive.

    Claro denied any wrongdoing and slammed the fines as “unjustified and disproportionate,” criticizing regulators for inconsistent oversight of the industry.
