EssilorLuxottica Expands Health-Tech Reach With Acquisition of RetinAI

EssilorLuxottica SA has acquired RetinAI, a company focused on artificial intelligence and data management in the eyecare industry, according to Bloomberg. The eyewear giant announced the deal as part of its ongoing efforts to deepen its presence in health technology. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

    The acquisition comes just days before EssilorLuxottica is set to release its third-quarter earnings. By bringing RetinAI into its portfolio, the company aims to strengthen its digital and medical technology capabilities. According to Bloomberg, EssilorLuxottica described the move as a key step toward building a fully integrated, technology-driven patient experience.

    “In the past year alone, we’ve made several bold moves in med-tech, all with the goal of building the most comprehensive, digitally enabled patient journey,” EssilorLuxottica Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Francesco Milleri said in the company’s statement. “RetinAI will add incredible value.”

    Based in Switzerland, Ikerian AG operates under the RetinAI brand and specializes in tools that analyze data derived from retinal images. Per Bloomberg, RetinAI collaborates with pharmaceutical companies and research institutions to support clinical trials and drug development initiatives, underscoring its importance in advancing data-driven healthcare.

    Bloomberg also reported that consensus estimates place EssilorLuxottica’s third-quarter revenue at €6.75 billion ($7.9 billion), representing an 8.5% year-on-year increase at constant currency.
