EU/Asia: French bank BNP sees balancing shifting in EU, Asia M&A race

An executive for France-based lender BNP Paribas offered an opinion on the state of mergers and acquisitions in Europe, saying in an interview that companies within Asia are increasingly becoming the acquirers, likely leading to a shift in balance.

Thierry Varene, the head of NBP Europe investment-banking operations, told reporters that “there will be a period of change, a rebalancing in the flow” as M&A activity slowly picks up.

Due to Europe’s insecure economy, said Varene, companies in Asia will likely take over as M&A leaders in the global economy.
