EU: Commission 2012 report reinforces significance of competition law

The European Commission’s 2012 annual report on competition policy has been released and, according to a press release, shows the vitality of effective competition law throughout Europe for a healthy internal market. According to the commission, the regulator’s 2012 policies were crucial sectors like financial services, energy, telecoms, pharmaceuticals and others in which the Commission’s enforcement of competition law “complements Single Market regulation.” Competition policy, according to the watchdog, prevents private barriers – which threaten trade and competition – being replaced by public barriers.
