EU: Commission clears Total Produce purchase of Dole stake, with conditions

Irish fresh food producer Total Produce on Monday, July 30, received regulatory clearance in the European Union for its purchase of a 45% stake in US peer Dole, subject to the sale of some of Dole’s Swedish businesses.

    The deal was originally announced on February 1, 2018, with Total Produce entering into a binding agreement to acquire a 45% equity stake in Dole for US$300 million.

    According to the EC, regulatory approval is conditional on the divestment of Dole’s Swedish bagged salad business Saba Fresh Cut, a disposal that Total Produce stated would have “no material impact” on the strategic rationale or commercial value of the deal.
