EU: EC chooses watchdog to monitor Ziggo/Liberty Global

The European Commission has reportedly appointed a Monitoring Trustee to oversee Liberty Global’s acquisition of Ziggo, reports say.

    UK-based CompetitionRX has been chosen as a third-party monitor to ensure that Liberty Global adheres to conditions placed on the merger after the Commission ruled the deal could proceed. Those concessions, reports say, include the divestiture of a premium movie channel.

    Further, Liberty Global and Ziggo must allow rivals to access their infrastructure.

    The Commission ruffled feathers earlier this year when it decided that Dutch authorities could not take control of the merger review.
