EU: Penguin, Random House merger bid to be decided by April 5

According to a press release, antitrust regulators in Europe will officially rule on whether publishers Penguin and Random House can merge by April 5. The owners of the publishers, Bertelsmann, based in Germany, and Pearson, based in Britain, announced the merged entity in October and would attempt to become a new player to bargain with e-book distributors like Amazon and Apple. Analysts have been split on whether the deal will earn approval.
