EU: Prominent antitrust lawyer leaves Shearman & Sterling

Shearman & Sterling Brussels antitrust partner Trevor Soames, who joined in 2011 from the collapsed US firm Howrey, has resigned from the firm.

It is understood that Soames had been in talks to join Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan along with Brussels office head and Shearman antitrust boss Stephen Mavroghenis, and fellow partner Miguel Rato. All three had moved from Howrey five years ago.

Mavroghenis has since decided to stay at Shearman. The US firm has recently accelerated plans to increase profitability through a number of measures including moving equity partners onto a “fixed interest” level of partner.
