Following the December hire of competition heavyweight Trevor Soames in Brussels, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has hired two Shearman & Sterling partners and their accompanying team in Brussels.
In December 2016, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan promised a transformation in its Brussels office, five months on and the man spearheading the growth of the Brussels practice, Trevor Soames, has stayed true to his word.
Announced on friday, Shearman & Sterling’s global head of antitrust Stephen Mavroghenis is to join Quinn Emanuel in Brussels, alongside partner Miguel Rato, both of whom joined Shearman in 2011 following Howrey’s dissolution, and a team of lawyers who will work with Soames and Nadine Herrmann, in the firm’s European Union and German competition practice.
Mavroghenis brings a practice combining contentious and regulatory issues arising from mergers and joint ventures, industry dominance, EU litigation, vertical arrangements and cartel investigations, where he acts for clients in a range of sectors including aviation, financial services technology and pharmaceuticals.
With a similar wide-ranging practice, Rato has a particular focus on unilateral conduct matters and IP licencing for clients in high-tech industries.
