EU: Sound giant Dolby secures cinema tech buyout

Sound technology conglomerate Dolby Laboratories has reportedly received approval by the European Commission to acquire Doremi.

Reports say Dolby will take over the digital cinema technology firm for $92.5 million in cash, in addition to $20 million in contingent consideration.

While the Commission said it found the two companies held overlapping market shares, the merger would not harm competition thanks to remaining competition throughout the EU.

Dolby first announced plans to acquire Doremi in February.
