The largest media company in the EU, Bertelsmann, has announced plans to increase its presence in the online education industry through a takeover of Relias Learning.
US-based Relias Learning offers online training for employees in various industries. Reports say Bertelsmann is looking to establish a third pillar to its operations, adding online education to broadcasting and book publishing.
Bertelsmann declined to disclose how much it agreed to acquire Relias Learning for, but said it would pay “in the mid-hundreds of millions” of dollars for the business.
The deal remains subject to regulatory review; the companies said they expect to finalize the deal by the end of the year.
