Former Justice Department antitrust attorney Jack Congdon has returned to Sullivan & Cromwell as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C., antitrust practice after nearly five years with the federal government, the law firm announced Monday.

    Congdon rejoins the firm after serving in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, where he worked on several prominent competition cases involving major corporations and industries. Before entering public service in 2021, he was an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell.

    During his time at the Justice Department, Congdon served as trial counsel in antitrust litigation involving American Airlines and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, according to the firm. Those matters were part of broader federal efforts to enforce competition laws across the transportation and sports sectors.

    His return continues a common pattern in Washington’s legal community, where experienced government attorneys move between public service and private practice, bringing regulatory and litigation experience to law firms advising corporate clients.

    Sullivan & Cromwell said Congdon will advise clients on antitrust investigations, litigation and merger-related matters as federal scrutiny of competition issues remains a priority for regulators.
