France: EU gets tougher on $4.2B Orange deal

The European Commission is set to take a harsher look at France’s Orange and the telco’s acquisition offer for Spain’s Jazztel after finding the companies’ proposed remedies to relieve competition concerns are insufficient.

Unnamed sources revealed the EU regulator will likely demand more from the communications firms since reviewing the first round of concessions, offered last month. The exact nature of what the Commission will require, however, was not revealed.

Orange, France’s top-spot wireless operator, is looking to acquire Jazztel to propel itself ahead of Vodafone, its top rival in Spain.
