Germany: Hospital co-op blocked from rival buyout

German antitrust authorities have blocked Asklepios’s previously-cleared acquisition of more than 10 percent in rival hospital cooperation Rhoen-Klinikum after finding Asklepios failed to meet concessions originally agreed upon for the deal. Reports say Germany’s Federal Cartel Office agreed in March to allow the buyout that would see 10.1 percent of Rhoen in control of Asklepios as long as Asklepios sold a hospital and medical center in one region. Since, the cooperative has reportedly not met those conditions; Rhoen told media that the watchdog has now blocked the buyout.
