Germany: National rail probed of abuse of dominance

 |  January 30, 2014

Germany’s national railway Deutsche Bahn will reportedly be investigated by Germany’s Federal Cartel Office over allegations the state-owned company is abusing its dominant position.

The authority announced Thursday it would launch a probe following complaints from rivals over allegations Deutsche Bahn blocked competitors from selling railway tickets at certain tickets.

Regulators said they would also investigate the company’s practices when selling tickets for other railway firms. The authority’s head Andreas Mundt added that “competitors have complained that they have limited access at best to the Deutsche Bahn’s distribution channels.”

The Office did not elaborate about which competitors filed the complaints.
