Germany/Sweden: Germany should follow Sweden on energy competition, says study

A study released by an agency advising the German government on competition said the nation should follow in Sweden’s path to healthier energy competition.

The study, released Thursday, was spearheaded by the Monopolkommission. The review found that Sweden’s quota model, which fixes renewable energy levels each utility must product, would be most effective to boost competition within Germany.

Such an overhaul would also help curb rising energy prices within solar and wind-power generated power.

Germany is currently in the process of phasing out nuclear power.
