Germany: Whirlpool granted approval to pursue majority stake in German kitchen giant Alno

The European Commission has approved for Whirlpool to acquire a controlling stake in Alno, Germany’s second-largest kitchen appliance manufacturer. Whirlpool is the globe’s largest appliance manufacturer and had already owned nearly 20 percent of Alno, though has announced that it plans to buy its majority stake in the German company for $59 million. Reports did not indicate what Whirlpool’s final stake in Alno would be.
