Global: With China’s blessing, publishing giant steams ahead

A merger resulting in a global publishing giant has been given the green light from Chinese regulators, some of the last to do so. According to reports, Random House Inc. and Penguin Group, set to become Penguin Random House, expect to complete the deal and initiate operations in July. The news comes just as Apple Inc. begins its defense in court in an e-books price-fixing case initiated by the US Department of Justice; both Random House and Penguin were also defendants in the DOJ’s case, but settled out of court.
