The Hellenic Competition Commission (HCC) announced on July 17, 2017, that it had issued over €10 million (US$11.5 million) in fines to a group of companies in the detergents and cosmetics market, led by Colgate-Palmolive.
The fines were issued due to the Commission determining that the Colgate-Palmolive had violated TFEU Articles 101 and 102, abusing its dominant market position.
The HCC fined the members of the group €8,671,267 (US$9.98 million) for infringement of Articles 1 of the Greek Competition Act and Article 101 of the TFEU and €747,518 (US$860,714) for violating Articles 2 of the Greek Competition Act and Article 102 of the TFEU. The HCC unanimously fined companies active in the retail and wholesale trade with total fines amounting to €1,017,207 (US$1.17 million) for violating Articles 1 of the Greek Competition Act and 101 of the TFEU. An additional administrative fine of an amount of €400,000 (US$460,538) was imposed on Colgate-Palmolive for submitting misleading data and obstructing the Directorate-General’s investigation.
