India: Antitrust criticism continues against e-commerce promotion tactics

India’s Commerce and Industry Ministry is being called upon to more intensely monitor and regulate e-commerce businesses as criticism grows of how online retailers are offering steep discounts during the holiday season.

    Reports say the Competition Commission of India has received a new complaint against various online stores for anticompetitive conduct. Traders group the Confederation of All India Traders has reportedly asked the CCI and the Commerce and Industry Ministry to take action.

    The complaint, made aware to Parliament on Friday, follows a crackdown on online retail giant Flipkart and it’s “Big Billion Day” sale, which took place in October.
