India: CCI fines Aditya Birla group for bid rigging

Fair trade regulator Competition Commission of India todayon Thursday, October 5, imposed fines totalling ₹6.27 crore (US$961,279) on Aditya Birla group firm Grasim Industries and two others for bid rigging Delhi Jal Board tenders for supply of a water purification product.

CCI has imposed a penalty of ₹2.3 crore (US$352,714) on Grasim, ₹2.09 crore (US$320,503) on Aditya Birla Chemicals (India) and of ₹1.88 crore (US$288,299) on Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd for their anti-competitive conduct, besides issuing cease and desist order against the three above companies.

Said it found Grasim and the two other entities to be in contravention of certain provisions of the Competition Act for rigging Delhi Jal Board tenders which were floated for procurement of Poly Aluminium Chloride, (PAC) which is used for purification of water.
