India: Did jute mills weave cartel? Sugar group thinks so

The Competition Commission of India announced an investigation into various manufacturers of jute, an organic fiber woven into thread, over suspicions some mills have formed a cartel. Reports say the CCI sent a notification to every member of the Indian Jute Mills Association, which includes 34 of the nation’s 83 jute mills, most of which based in West Bengal. The CCI notified the group after receiving complaints of price-fixing by the Indian Sugar Mills Association; the CCI decided to proceed with an investigation after finding sufficient evidence to support the allegations.
