India: Questions to heads of airline sector illuminate need for CCI action

The head of the Air Passengers’ Association of India, the aviation minister, and the founder of the LCC model in India were questioned over rising airfare prices, bringing to light the absence of a competition regulator in the airline sector and the CCI’s lack of action on the matter. In the questions, the three officials all agreed the CCI should look into alleged overcharging and soaring fare prices, noting that they cannot control prices the way an antitrust regulator could.
