India: Supreme Court delays Diageo, United decision

 |  January 20, 2014

India’s Supreme Court has adjourned until the end of January in regards to the merger of UK-based Diageo Plc and India’s United Spirits as the Court hears a lower court’s decision to annul the deal.

Diageo filed an appeal against the Karnataka High Court’s previous decision that blocked its buyout of United Spirits, and has reportedly claimed “a lot of prejudice” against the company due to its name.

The acquisition of the Indian firm earned approval by the Competition Commission. While the case is now at the Supreme Court, reports say the Court has adjourned until January 31 to continue hearing appeals.
