India: TAM complaint considered by CCI for abuse of dominance in TV sector

A complaint has been filed against audience measurement company TAM by public broadcaster Preasar Bharati to the Competition Commission of India for abuse of dominance. The complaint argues that TAM has been abusing its market dominance by excluding rural towns from its population measurements, only installing people-meters in cities with more than 100,000 people; the Doordarshan network has a strong presence in rural, smaller cities. The CCI has agreed to look into the complaint and says it will ask the Director General of Investigations to probe the complaint.
