India: Tribunal backs Commission’s decision to clear tire cos of cartel charges

The Competition Tribunal has announced the denial of an appeal by the All India Tyre Dealer Federation of a Competition Commission of India decision, clearing tire companies of fall charges concerning the formation of a cartel. The tire group appealed the decision, claiming the CCI did not order the charges under certain sections of the Competition Act, 2002. The ruling by the CCI was made last October, and determined that five tire manufacturers and their associations are cleared of charges. According to reports, the CCI initially filed the order incorrectly under Section 27, but the order was later rectified.
