India/US: Apollo, Cooper strike $2.2B tire deal

India-based tire conglomerate Apollo Tyres announced Wednesday its plans to buy US-based Cooper Tire and Rubber. The deal, which will be made for $2.2 billion, will throw Apollo as one of the largest tire companies on the planet. The acquisition is expected to become finalized by the end of the year pending antitrust regulatory approval, as well as approval from shareholders.
