Indonesia: Jakarta investigating need cartel

The Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) is investigating the possibility of a cartel being involved in the drop in beef supplies and the increase in its price.

    “We are investigating whether there has been a conspiracy among businesspeople to withhold beef supplies so that the price will hike and benefit them,” said head of the KPPU Syarkawi Rauf said on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

    According to Syarkawi, it was suspected that some importers were withholding beef supplies to cause a stock scarcity in the market, forcing the government to raise cattle imports.
