Ireland has launched its new competition authority after merging its existing watchdog with the National Consumer Agency.
Reports say the NCA and the Competition Authority have officially combined into the new competition watchdog, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. The regulator is headed by Isolde Goggin, who says the new body’s main goal is to improve market functioning.
”We will do this by helping to create open and competitive markets where consumers are protected and able to assert their rights when they need to,” she said.
Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton called the founding of the new agency “a major step forward for consumer rights in Ireland.”
