Ireland: Electricity dispute lands in Commission’s hands

Northern Ireland’s utility regulator has battled in an ongoing dispute with Northern Ireland Electricity, owner of the region’s electricity network, in an issue that has now been referred to the Competition Commission for resolution. Regulator Shane Lynch referred the matter to the Commission to decide whether NIE should be allowed to increase its investments to expand infrastructure, a move Shane believes will increase costs for consumers. In a statement Lynch defended his decision to refer the case; the Commission is set to rule on the situation within the next six months.
