Italy: Antitrust authority says Telecom Italia in ‘grave violation’ of competition law

In a document obtained by Reuters, Italy’s antitrust authority said that Telecom Italia hampered competition in the wireless sector of the nation. Specifically, between 2009 and 2011, Telecom Italia blocked access to Italy’s fixed-line telephone network, setting prices that prevented any rivals from making a profit. The authority called the happenings a “grave violation” of competition regulation. Telecom has been under investigation by the authority since 2010 and did not comment on the matter.
