Italy: Millions in fines for Telecom Italia for dominance abuse

Italy’s Antitrust Authority has announced its issuance of nearly $136 million in fines for the nation’s largest phone conglomerate Telecom Italia after the regulator found the company had abused its dominant position. In a statement released by the watchdog, the company hampered competition in the market of voice phone services as well as Internet and broadband access. Two investigations into Telecom Italia lead to the multi-million dollar fine and resulted in findings that the company restricted wholesale and retail access to its network. The charges relate to the company’s fixed-line network.
