Italian competition regulators have confirmed they plan to go forward with an investigation into abuse of dominance claims despite the fact that the company that first issued the complaint has ceased operations.
Regulators will still probe Telecom Italia Mobile and rival operator Wind for claims they abused their market power. Onetime virtual phone company Bip Mobile filed a complaint with regulators alleging Telecom Italia and Wind blocked Bip from entering the market.
Bip did not own its own telco infrastructure, but instead rented it from its rivals; the company claims its competitors charged unfairly high rental prices.
Bip went out of business last December after filing the complaint in 2012, reports say.
According to reports, Bip’s original complaint also named Vodafone, but regulators have cleared the company of any wrongdoing.
