Italy: Vodafone launches billion-Euro dominance abuse case against Telecom Italia
Telecommunications giant Vodafone confirmed to reporters it is suing rival Telecom Italia for one billion Euro (about $1.33 billion), alleging the company abused its dominant market position and citing anticompetitive behavior from the company between 2008 and 2013. Vodafone said Italy’s competition watchdog has already found evidence of dominance abuse by the Italian mobile telco company; the regulator announced in May of this year plans to fine the company more than $130 million regarding Telecom Italia’s reported anticompetitive behavior involving network infrastructure. In a statement, Vodafone told media its lawsuit would “set out how Telecom Italia’s abusive actions have harmed competition and innovation, stifled choice and undermined the wider Italian consumer interest.” A response from Telecom Italia was not yet given.
