Italy: WhatsApp sanctioned by the antitrust regulator

Italy’s Antitrust Authority has imposed a fine of €50,000 (US$61,477) to WhatsApp for failing to publish clarifications to the application’s Terms of Use.

    In particular, the Authority took into account not only the importance of the professional and his conscious refusal to publish the extract of the Authority’s decision, but also the fact that the publication is the only instrument that users of Whatsapp in Italy have available.

    The Authority specified that the €50,000 (US$61,477) that WhatsApp will have to pay are the maximum fine currently established by the legislation.
