Japan: Buyout ends UK ownership of popular Lucozade, Ribena drink brands

Japan’s Suntory announced plans to acquire popular beverage brands Lucozade and Ribena from UK-based pharmaceuticals company GlazoSmithKline, a $2.1 billion deal that ends British ownership of the decades-old beverage names.

Reports say the ownership of the names has been quite successful within the UK, but GSK is championing its new agenda to focus on healthcare-related products only.

Suntory reportedly faced rival bids including UK’s AG Barr.
