Japan-based Fujifilm has revealed its plan to acquire two cell-culture media companies for US$800 million. Last week, Fujifilm announced that it would buy firm Irvine Scientific Sales and related biotech unit IS Japan from JXTG.
Culture media contain the nutrients required for the growth and proliferation of cells. According to Fujifilm they are “essential” for cell culturing in the research and development and manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals and regenerative medicine products.
The company said in a statement that the acquisitions combined with Fujifilm’s bio-medical-related technologies will help “further expansion of the contact development and manufacturing business for biopharmaceuticals, the acceleration of research and development in the area of regenerative medicine, and the further expansion of reagent business.”
