Japan/Germany: Bosch, GS Yuasa, Mitsubishi form lithium-ion battery alliance

Germany-based Robert Bosch, along with Japan-based GS Yuasa International and Mitsubishi Corporation, have formed a joint venture to focus on lithium-ion battery innovation. According to reports, the engineering and tech companies will work together to develop a battery with increased energy content; the parties will focus on developing a product with reduced weight and space requirements to work in an increased range of electronics. Bosch plans to hold 50 percent of the joint venture, while the Japan-based companies will each hold 25 percent. The companies plan to begin operations in 2014.
