Japan: SoftBank in talks to buy DreamWorks

Japan-based SoftBank is reportedly in talks to acquire animation giant DreamWorks, according to an unnamed source.

Reports say a takeover would boost SoftBank’s already successful communications and media portfolio. The Japanese companies is the parent company of US wireless operator Sprint.

It’s latest pursuit could see a transaction reaching $3.4 billion, report say. A takeover of DreamWorks would also make SoftBank the second Japanese company to acquire a Hollywood studio; Sony Corp acquired Columbia Pictures in 1989.
