Kenya: Competition authority wins turf-war against multinational authority

Attorney General Githy Muigai has given his permission for the Competition Authority of Kenya to have complete and sole mandate to clear proposed mergers and acquisitions. The move temporarily offers protection for local firms from regulation from the Comesa Competition Commission, which presides over 19 nations in Eastern and Southern Africa. COMESA first began operations in January of this year. The situation is part of a broader turf-war between COMESA and individual states.
