Malaysia: Coffee shop group advised to use caution with price hikes

 |  October 16, 2013

Malaysia’s Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism has warned a coffee shop association that its considered price hikes could spark an investigation by the Malaysia Competition Commission, say reports.

The Sibu Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners’ Association is reportedly debating whether to hike coffee prices following a recent spike in gas costs.

The Ministry spoke with MyCC and confirmed that the competition regulator had taken action against similar activity before.

The warnings came after the coffee group said it was adapting a wait-and-see attitude before deciding whether or not to raise prices.
