Meat regulation reformer Butler to step down next week

 |  January 20, 2012

The head of the Grain Inspection Packers and Stockyards Administration, J. Dudley Butler, will step down next week. Butler was appointed by President Obama in May 2009. He has played a central role in efforts to pass antitrust regulation to reform the meat packing industry on behalf of small farmers and ranchers.

Alan Christian, the deputy administrator for the Packers and Stockyards Program, will be the agency’s acting administrator.
