Melanie Aitken to step down as Commissioner in September

The Commissioner of the Canadian Competition Bureau, Melanie Aitken, has announced that she will step down from her role on September 21, two years before the end of her five-year term. She has been with the Bureau since 2005 and served as Commissioner since 2009. During Aitken’s tenure, the Bureau investigated telecom and airline industries, and developed guidance documents and a register for merger review decisions. The Bureau’s investigation of Libor manipulation is in progress.
