Mexico: Aeromexico begins handing over Mexico City airport slots

Mexico’s flagship airline Aeroméxico has kicked off the process through which it will give up eight landing and takeoff slots at its hub of Mexico City International Airport (AICM). With this move, Aeroméxico complies with COFECE’s demands for reducing its market power prior to the approval of a joint operations deal between it and its US-based rival, Delta Airlines.

Various airlines looking to pick up Aeroméxico’s slots have already met with AICM officials in order to decide their ultimate designation, with further negotiations expected over the week.
